The weather finally looks to be in our favor for a trip to West Virginia! The plan is to allow 3 days, leaving Saturday morning and returning Monday evening. Putting together a detailed plan can be the difference between a mediocre and a great trip. I spent many hours looking up info about the area we would be visiting, planning our stops for fuel, dining, lodging and activities. After looking over the bike for any obvious safety issues, it’s time to load everything. This is also very important, but we’ll save that for another time.
Saturday was finally here after a long night! I was like a kid on Christmas morning. The alarm went off and I was out of bed immediately. The wife on the other hand was a different story, she took a little longer to wake up. Read More
After a long stretch of rain, we finally get a beautiful Sunday. High in the mid 70’s and sunny skies! So, after church we decided to take the bike out for a spin. We hadn’t eaten yet so we decided to head down I-
Most river towns have some type of developed riverfront and Ripley isn’t any different. They have done a pretty nice job of creating a pleasant atmosphere for people to enjoy the Ohio river.
I would have to say that the stretch of US 52 between New Richmond and Aberdeen is probably the most scenic part that borders Ohio and Kentucky. Read More
All week long we watched the weather with the anticipation of being able to finally take our weekend trip to West Virginia. With each day the chances of rain grew greater. By Wednesday, we decided West Virginia would have to wait. Hoping to find another destination, we studied the weather map. Rain everywhere! I was determined to go somewhere this weekend but when Thursday rolled around, it was still looking like rain in almost every direction. Heading north might be a possibility and after speaking with my ‘Significant Other’ we decided on heading to Lake Erie.
Friday evening at 5:15 we were packed and ready to go!
Friday morning at work, I’m looking out the shop doors and it’s looking pretty nice. I figured at lunch I would ask my wonderful wife if she wanted to go for a short ride this evening.
When lunch finally rolls around, I get a text from her. No, not asking if I wanted to ride this evening, but she wanted to know if I would like to go for a ride Sunday afternoon. Well, of course I said “Yes” and I also replied, “It’s not supposed to rain tonight either.” My wife being the loving woman she is, I’m sure seen right through that statement, but she asks “Oh, you want to go tonight too?” I figured she may only want to go one time this weekend, but to my surprise, she was in complete agreement with going both days. Earlier in the week they were calling for a chance of rain Sunday afternoon. After church we double checked the weather and only a 25% chance after 3pm. Sounded good to us, so off we went.
Deciding to head over to Rabbit Hash, Kentucky we hopped on I-
Reaching the Petersburg exit put a smile on my face, knowing the roads to come would be a lot more enjoyable. I’ll ride highway when needed but If it’s not necessary, I’d rather not. Read More
Our Saturday rides usually consist of two to four bikes. Planning a ride can take a lot of time and research, especially when riding on unfamiliar roads. Fortunately for me, my awesome wife decided to plan her first route. Let me add that she did a great job!
Our meeting time was set at 8:30, so once everyone was fueled up we were on our way. Taking Crosscounty Hwy west to I-
Our 25th Anniversary was coming and having such a great wife, she knew that one thing that would put a smile on my face. Riding the motorcycle. So she picked somewhere we could go for the weekend. Knowing I would want to plan the route, she tells me a couple weeks before we go. “Baby, we are going to Fallingwater Pennsylvania.”
She starts off by telling me it’s a house designed by Frank Llyod Wright and we will be taking a tour. I’m thinking, is this for me or you? I keep quite and listen. After 25 years of marriage, I’m beginning to learn, keeping my mouth shut can be a good thing. She starts showing me several reviews that mention they aren’t into this type of thing but after going they loved it. I figured, I just might too. Read More
Our intent was to take a weekend trip to Shawnee National Forest in Illinois, but they were calling for storms all weekend so we called our cabin reservations and asked if they could move them to a different date. They were happy to oblige so we started looking for a different destination.
The weather carries a big role in where we decide to go for a trip and this was no different. North looked like our best choice so Michigan it was. As usual, the closer our departure the more the forecast changed. Calling for rain Friday evening, but I was hoping it would hold off. Read More
This will be our 4th time going to Breaks Interstate Park. Usually we pick places to visit that we haven’t been before but this area is so scenic we keep coming back! After a weekend in Smoky Mountain National Park (in the cage), we return home Sunday evening only to leave Monday morning for two days, but this time on the bike.
The forecast had been looking like rain the week before but about mid week that changed for the better. Monday started a little foggy but eventually cleared for a nice evening and Tuesday was excellent. More
After canceling our trip earlier in the season due to severe weather, the time was finally here to visit Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois.
The weather was looking almost perfect for the long weekend. Thursday evening immediately after work, we are packed and ready to go! The sun was shining with a warm 82°.
Our goal for the night was to make it to Bedford, Indiana where we stayed at a Super 8. We usually never stay at Super 8’s but the online reviews seemed pretty good and the price was right. I’ll just say….Read More
